My boyfriend is studying photography, and since I'm in England and I actually have zero ability to take decent photos, he decided to help me and shot a few of my outfits. I (obviously) did some shopping, and I found this gorgeous dress at Primark, full of bows!

Guest post - Mad about hats

I'm a lover of hats. During the winter I'm rarely out without a beret and during the summer I do love to show off a straw hat on top of my head.

That's why I was really excited when I read the article Izzie wrote for my blog: get ready to learn more about vintage hats :D

No vintage lover’s collection is complete without at least a couple of hats. Although not so many of us tend to wear them nowadays (aside from in the winter when we want to keep our brains warm), in the past, women often wore a hat to finish off their ensemble. When you look back through old photographs, back to when shabby chic furniture was just ‘furniture’, women often wore hats, and not just on special occasions. During wartime in the 1940s, hats were particularly popular as they allowed women to brighten their outfits, which could be quite uninspiring at times because of rationing. In fact, the only materials which didn’t fall victim to rationing were hat materials. Since then though, hats have become less popular, and by the 1960s hats had started to be seen as something of the past. But as you may have noticed by now, things of the past are right up my street. So here is my shout out to hats, old and new.

The Pillbox

The first thing that springs to my mind when I think of vintage headwear is the classic pillbox hat. Think Jackie Kennedy and Audrey Hepburn. It’s funny to consider that something which originally started out as military headgear has since become such an iconic image of elegant feminine style.

Pins can be used to hold a pillbox at different angles. You can add beautiful vintage brooches for an extra touch. Veils can also be used for a really retro look. The pillbox is just so versatile. It can be used as a cute accessory when angled jauntily, or to create a sophisticated, even sultry look, depending on your preference.

Ooh la la

Another vintage must-have in the hat department is the beret. Like the pillbox, the beret is also widely used in the military. So now I’m wondering if women started wearing hats such as these after donning their men folk’s headwear, in the same way women often wear their boyfriends and husbands shirts? I guess there’s just something special about wearing a man’s clothes. And I’ve heard men rather like us doing it too.

Another thing the beret shares with the pillbox is that it can be so flexible in its usage. A number of colours, styles and fabrics are available, from the classic, simple French style, to glamorous styles made from fur. I’ve also heard that in the past, angling your beret to either left or right was used to indicate ones political leanings.

The beret was very popular back in the 30s. Its popularity resurged in the 50s and 60s, particularly with the beatnik movement, and I’m sure Brigitte Bardot didn’t do the trend any harm either. Then at the start of the current credit crunch in the late 00's, the beret made yet another come back, when young people in French cities decided to revive the fashion as a way to embrace their rural roots and hark back to a simpler time. Since then it has remained popular, with celebrities from Rihanna to Kate Middleton wearing them.

Big & Beautiful

Now for something completely different! The total opposite of the petite pillbox has to be the fabulous wide brimmed hats of the 1970s. Think big, bold, and floppy. Last year, designers such as Tommy Hilfiger and Donna Karan unveiled their takes on the wide-brim at New York Fashion Week, and the trend is set to continue into 2012. This look is great for the summer, matched with floaty dresses or wide flared trousers. They’re so easy to wear, and can look both casual and glamorous at the same time – the perfect mix for a relaxing summer outing.

Nowadays, hair fascinators are perhaps more popular than hats. Yet many fascinators draw inspiration from older styles. Many make use of pillbox style veils, plus feathers, bows and furs. Not only this, men’s hats are also popular, such as my beloved bowler hat! I think these things will always be in fashion, in one form or another, because women’s hair just so suits framing or decoration of some kind. And besides, women have always loved accessories. Any excuse to dress up an outfit is fine by me.

I'm going to visit my boyfriend tomorrow, and I heard England is all cold and snowy and stuff. I'm actually scared, because I really don't know how to dress for cold. In Portugal, I just wear my normal summer clothes, and add tights, knits and a coat.

Portuguese Love - The Paper and Ink

Ready for another interview? Here's Joana, a portuguese blogger that has everything: great style, awesome make up looks, gorgeous photos and flawless blog design (you know, has everything my blog doesn't)

Inês: Quando é que começaste o teu blog? E porque lhe deste o nome "The Paper and Ink"?

Joana: Tudo começou em finais de Setembro, princípios de Outubro de 2009, mas no princípio era poucos os posts que fazia e eram mais sobre a minha vida e coisas que gostava, as coisas só começaram a mudar por volta de Maio de 2010 e foi quando o blog começou a tomar a forma pelo qual é hoje conhecido. The Paper and Ink, o nome do blog, surgiu bem antes de eu o ter feito e deve-se simplesmente ao facto de ser duas coisas que eu adoro e acho essenciais, tinta e papel porque são os meios mais versáteis que temos para tudo! Escrever, apontar ideias, fazer listas, as fotografias e revistas não são mais que tinta sobre papel, pinturas e afins, por isso, a minha ideia não tem muito que se lhe diga.

Inês: When did you start your blog? Why did you call it "The Paper and Ink"?

Joana: It all started late September/early October 2009, but in the beggining there were only a few posts, more about my life and things I liked, it only changed around May 2010 and that's when it became what it is today. The Paper and Ink, my blog's name, came up way before I made it, and it's simply because they're two things I love and think are essential, they are the most versatile medium for everything! Writing, taking notes of ideas, making lists, photos and magazines are nothing but ink on paper, paintings and such, so there isn't much to tell about my idea.

Inês: Onde te inspiras quando crias um OOTD?

Joana: Geralmente quando faço um OOTD é porque gosto da roupa que estou a usar naquele dia, porque quero lembrar-me do que vesti e/ou porque tenho uma camara comigo e uma oportunidade para fazer tal coisa. Não tenho muita inspiração porque visto aquilo que gosto e com o qual me sinto bem, mas se tivesse de nomear fontes da inspiração para certas partes do meu estilo, que obviamente estão presentes nos meus OOTD, eu diria que vem quase sempre de blogs. O meu favorito é o blog da Alix, The Cherry Blossom Girl sigo-a à anos e por mim roubava-lhe o guarda fatos inteiro!!!!

Inês: Where inspires you when you create an OOTD

Joana: When I make an OOTD, it's because I liked the clothes I'm wearing on that day, I want to remember what I wore and/or I have a camera with me and an opportunity to shoot. I'm not really inspired because I wear what I like and what I feel good in, but if I had to point out inspiration sources for some parts of my style (obviously present on my OOTD) I'd say it almost always comes from blogs. My favourite is Alix's, The Cherry Blossom Girl, I've followed her for years and I'd steal her entire wardrobe!!!!

Inês: Quais são as tuas lojas favoritas? Compras muito online ou em segunda mão?

Joana: Adoro a H&M, acima de tudo, mas também a Blanco, Zara, Primark (quando encontro coisas que gosto) e acho que nem vale a pena referir marcas acima da possibilidade os mortais, à quais não tenho acesso mas que adorava, porque se não ia dizer que o meu armário ia ser recheado de Christian Louboutin e Elie Saab. Não compro online, ainda, porque só à pouco tempo tive acesso a um cartão de débito decente e roupas em segunda mão, as que tenho, de momento poucas, não são compradas mas sim coisas que me foram passadas ou que eu ‘roubei’ de um outro armário. Porém gosto de muito de ir a lojas de roupa em 2º mão e basculhar tudo à procura de algum achado, mas por enquanto ainda não encontrei nada que realmente gostasse. Mas adoro o conceito e acho que mais pessoas deviam aderir.

Inês: What are your favourite shops? Do you buy online or secondhand often?

Joana: Above all, I love H&M, but I also like Blanco, Zara, Primark (when I find things I like) not to mention brands above mortals, to which I haven't got access but I would love to, otherwise I'd say my wardrobe would be full of Christian Louboutin and Elie Saab. I don't shop online yet, I just got a decent debit card, and second hand, the few I have, I "stole" form other closets. I do like to go on second hand shops and sweep everything searching for a find, but I still haven't found anything I actually liked. But I do love the concept and I think more people should do it.

Inês: Adoro os teus posts de maquilhagem. Quem são as tuas beauty bloggers favoritas?

Joana: Ia dizer Queen mas acho que toda a gente conhece, quem não conhecer vai levar uma esfrega minha, por isso vou dizer Danny Elfman, a sério, conhecido como tudo, muita gente conhece a música deste compositor mas acho que poucos lhe conhecem o nome. O meu filme favoritos, bem, é o Moulin Rouge, mas também sou doida pelo Star Wars, adoro O Clube dos Poetas Mortos, e tudo o resto. Cinemaholic!!!

Joana: I was going to say Queen but I think everyobe knows them, I'll kick your bum if you don't, so I'm going with Danny Elfman, seriously, loads of people know his music but few know his name. My favourite film is Moulin Rouge, but I'm also crazy about Star Wars, Dead Poets Society and everything else. Cinemaholic!!!

I love wearing clothes I completely forgot I had. Especially when it's a striped dress and I get to play with stereotypes.

Also, I'm wearing boots. Which any of my friends will tell you means that the 2012 apocalypse is real, because I NEVER wear boots, I never really like any: they're too loose on the leg, too tight on the leg, too high, too low, too much heel, not enough heel... so I'm going to tell you the tale of How I Met My Boots:

I was in Porto, dropping my boyfriend off at the airport, so I wasn't particularly happy. So my mum suggested that we went to Primark, to which I obviously said YES. NOW. PLEASE. As I was browsing through the sale section, I heard someone call my name. It was the boots. They were looking at me from the other end of the shop, crying out "INÊÊÊÊS!" and begging me to take them home with me. I told myself they'd be too expensive for me to make room for them in my wardrobe, but when I was close enough, the price tag winked at me and said "sale: 11€". Needless to say we've been together ever since and are very much in love.

There aren't many boys into personal style. Well, there aren't many boys into fashion. But I got to be honest, the majority of boys on Lookbook or Chictopia are way over the top and creep me out a little bit (so do some girls). That's why it's always very cool to find a stylish guy among this fauna: Francesco was one of the first people I've met on Chictopia. He's an Italian Photography and Graphic Design teacher with amazing style (wish some of my professors dressed like him!). I just recently found out he designs tote bags, and (surprise surprise) they're gorgeous:

Forever Young

You know when you go to burger king and you see the littles kids with paper crowns? Or when little kids run to get into puddles and jump on them? Or when there's a dinosaur exhibit and the kids go all crazy about the T-rex?

Well, I'm one of those kids, only a tad taller. So it's very common to see dinosaurs, super heroes and space related prints in my everyday wear:

My friends are often embarrassed of me, and hearing someone say "You've got to be kidding" is very common when you're dealing with me on a daily basis.

There was a moon exploration exhibit at my uni town last month, and kids got to put on spacesuits (helmets included!), so I asked if I could go in as well (because DUH it was the coolest thing ever) but they said I was too old for it... gutted. I did manage to sneak a picture of me as a cardboard astronaut!

Make up: Garnier’s BB cream miracle skin perfector

This is possibly my favourite thing of all. This cream is PERFECT for someone like me: I don't like foundation, but I don't like my red face either, so as you can see, I've got a problem right here. And there's where this cream comes in: it has SPF (perfect), it moisturizes (perfect), doesn't give too much coverage (perfect) and gives you a really healthy candle lit glow (yeah, I'm smitten). Plus, it's only about 10€ (double perfect!)

Tv show: 2 broke girls

This show is hated by many, but personaly, I love it: it has Kate Dennings (aka, queen of cool) cupcakes and it makes me laugh. Some people say the jokes are bad. Well, some people say Alexa Chung isn't funny and I think she's as funny as they come.

The plot is really simple: a posh Paris Hilton-ish girl loses all her fortune when her dad goes to prison, so she has to start working as a waitress with a streetwise girl. And they both try to start their own cupcake business. Ow and they have a horse. And that's pretty much it.

Film: Addams Family / Addams Family Values

These films used to be one of my childhood favourites, so when I re-watched them I was scared they would end up being horrible. They weren't. They was even better than I remembered: dark humor, funny kind of creepy, awesome outfits by Wednesday Addams and great performances. Ow, and includes one of my all time favourite actors: Christopher Lloyd. Trailers here and here.

Music: The Maccabees

The Maccabees are one of my favourite bands and they're very special to me: not only they create beautiful music, they are the reason why I so randomly met my boyfriend. And they have a new album, Given to the Wild, which exceeded all my wildest expectations. The single Pelican is a definite favourite, even though I've heard some say it's the album's lowest point. A must listen if you're into Indie-Rock.

Book: Tina Fey's "Bossypants"

I love Tina Fey. And I'll pretty much watch/read/listen to/worship every single thing she's had something to do with. That's why I was really excited when I started reading her autobiography. And it was everything I hoped it would be: funny from top to bottom, proving that we shouldn't take ourselves so seriously. I'm actually getting the audiobook, because I bet it's even better with her reading it!

I’m a really competitive person gamewise. For example: I hate dancing, BUT I’ll do anything to play Just Dance on the Wii because you can beat someone at it. I love points. What can I say, even on the xbox, I always try to get all the achievements (I should be like this in uni too shouldn't I?).

And this site does it for me. There are lists of the best films, and you get to keep track of the ones you’ve seen. And as you’re getting through the top lists (IMBD included) you get awards! It's awesome really. Plus, When I started my acocunt about 2 months ago, I decided I would only check the ones I watched from then on, and dear god, I have watched EIGHTY SIX FILMS :| Also, thanks to it, I rediscovered my childhood favourite Daffy Duck short: Duck Amuck!

I don't know about you, but these are my favourite posts to make. Especially when they mean I get to interview a gorgeous redhead, who works as a videographer at a contemporary art museum, but also owns an etsy shop. She is too cute for words and has flawless style. Everyone, meet Hannah!

Inês: How would you describe your style? Who is your style icon?

Hannah: Gah. Lately my style has been very simple and practical. Mostly I try to dress up thrift store finds and not look like a cat lady. I have a lot of different influences, but off the top of my head a style icon who can do no wrong in my book is Anna Karina. I've always been drawn to the 60s.

Inês: Why did you start blogging? What are your everyday blog reads?

Hannah: I started blogging to promote my etsy shop. I'm not sure how much it's worked, but I enjoy it and I've made some superb blogger lady friends, so I keep on doing it. My everyday reads include calivintage, Dores, Happy, honey and lark, Homerun Ballerina, and Tick Tock Vintage, to name a few. Actually, I've been looking at tumblr a lot more these days, but there are just too many good ones to list.

Inês: What is your favourite piece from your wardrobe? Where did you find it?
Hannah: This coat from the 70's is my latest fave, it's warm and simple and I was so psyched to find it in a Goodwill for $20. I'd been on the look out for a duffle coat for like 2 years.

Inês: If you could have a super power, what would it be, and why?
Hannah: I wish I never had to sleep. I could get so much more done! Or at least watch so many movies. I am a person who needs a lot of sleep.

Maybe Mutant X's Genomex will help you get Neil Cuddahy's DNA for you to stay awake as long as you want!

Inês: What is your favourite band/singer? And your favourite film?

Hannah: My favorite band right now is Twin Sister, I just saw them play last week and it was great! Fave band of all time is probably Belle and Sebastian. And favorite film is really hard to answer, today I was thinking about Blow Up, that's a really great film. And there are some sweet 60s outfits in it.

The old school fashion bloggers probabily remember the Travelling T-shirt. For those of you who don't, it was a project done by an online shop, a basically it was the following: 6 different bloggers were given a t-shirt to style according to tehi own taste. The result was 6 very different and inspiring outfits.
I thought maybe I could do the same with Portuguese bloggers, except the t-shirt would be the same. That way, not only we'll get to see what the myriad of creative ways the t-shirt will be styled, but it will also overcome the (unfortunately still existent) portuguese taboo of wearing second-hand clothes.
A few ladies have already agreed on this project, and I will link their outfits as soon as they style them! Here's the first one of, hopefully, many. My take on the t-shirt:

I'm going through a brown phase. I'm sure most of you will relate to this as well, I go through a lot of different colour obsessions phases: I've been in the gray stage, then dark green, but right now I'm a fan of everything in the brown family (for some reason the colour taste changes happen at the same time as my hair colour changes).

Here's an outfit I've been wearing a lot, and you're not going to see it properly because I'm awesome at taking pictures.

Soooooo yesterday I had yet ANOTHER exam (yay --'). And what's the best thing to cheer up after an exam? Shopping! I found these delicious bags of animals: a rhino, a squirrel, an owl and a hedgehog...

...but they cost 60-70€ each so I had to leave before they started charging me for drooling in front of their shop. And what do you do when you're broke and can't buy pretty animal bags? You spend the little money you have on Zara!

10€ for the shoes and 3€ for each perfume. This is what sales were made for! Have a good weekend everyone :D

Não sei se vocês se lembram da Travelling T-shirt... foi um projecto lançado há uns anos pela Vintage Society, no qual enviaram uma T-shirt a (penso eu) 6 bloggers, para cada uma delas a incorporar num look, mostrando assim como pessoas com estilos diferentes conseguiam incorporar uma mesma peça de formas tão distintas.

Essa ideia sempre me agradou, adoro quando encontro bloggers com peças iguais às minhas, não só é uma óptima forma de inspiração, mas mostra também a versatilidade das peças.

Dito isto, adorava começar um projecto do género, só para bloggers portuguesas: a comunidade lusa tem vindo a aumentar de forma exponencial, e seria interessante explorar a imaginação das nossas raparigas mais estilosas!

A única diferença da Travelling T-shirt seria esta: não seriam t-shirts diferentes. Seria a mesma t-shirt. A t-shirt passaria de blogger em blogger (cada uma responsável pela sua lavagem, etc), tendo assim também como objectivo ultrapassar o tabu de roupa em segunda mão que muitas pessoas ainda apresentam. As fotos de todas seriam postas num Tumblr ou algo do género.

I was sent by faketattoos.se a gorgeous collection of temporary tattoos for me to try out. I was obviously super excited about it because I'm always drawing on my arms and I've been planning on getting a tattoo for the longest time (I decided that the day I present my master's dissertation is the day I get one!)

I started with this rather small one on my wrist, with a couple of cute birds. To be honest, I couldn't decide which to choose, they're all so cute!

Inês: How would you describe your style?

Emma: I cannot really define my style as I have lots of inspirations, but in general I like to feel feminine and elegant. This may be by wearing pretty dresses, silk shirts or blouses, heel shoes combined with shorts, bows, clutches, or a discreet nailpolish ... However I am always minimalistic about accessories such as jewelry : I only have a few pretty and delicate rings or a couple of gold bracelets.

Inês: Why did you start blogging ? What are your everyday blog reads?

Emma: I havediscovered the first french fashion blogs a few years ago (le blog de Betty, The Cherry Blossom Girl, TokyoBanhbao, Miss Pandora), and I immediately liked reading them. One day I just decided to create my own blog, to share my interpretation of fashion trends and style on a daily basis.

My favorite blogs are The Cherry Blossom Girl, Miss Pandora, Trini G, Snowblack blog, The September Issue, Carolines mode and Camille over the Rainbow.

Inês: What is your favourite piece from your wardrobe? Where did you find it?

Emma: I couldn't live without my black lace-trimmed shorts from The Kooples. I bought it last winter, and since that day I haven't spent a week without wearing it at least once.

Inês: If you could have a super power, what would it be, and why?

Emma: I would have the power to make appear money, to buy as many clothes, shoes and bags as I want ;)

Happy new year everyone!

I thought this would be the perfect time to go through the outfit posts I made last year and make a selection of my favourites and the ones I wore the most. Here we go:

The lazy day outfits:

I love both of these and they are pretty much what I put on when I'm in a hurry and I can't out enough effort into an outfit: Shorts with a t-shirt/jumper (depending on the season) or jeans with a striped top (throwing a trenchcoat on top if the weather insists on it). Add a red lip to that last one. Red lips make me happy!

The everyday dresses:

These two dresses were my favourite this past summer. Small floral patters always get to me, and I really like how these two dresses fit. All I had to do was add my myriad of necklaces and I was good to go. They're very helpful when it comes to being in a hurry as well, but I'm usually late for uni during the winter (my bed is just too warm and comfy!)

The winterizable dresses:

I don't know if that's a real word, but it is from now on. I'm a dress/skirt/shorts girl, so winter can be a rough time for me. That's why I always manage to pair my dresses up with warm knitted cardigans, my trusty blazer and an overcoat. Let's not forget thick tights and berets, they play a huge role in my comfortness. I still need to invest in a good pair of boots for my winterization to be complete.

New year's eve outfit will be posted as soon as my friends get over international hangover day and e-mail me the pictures!

I’ve been trying to do an outfit post for a while, but I’ve either been leaving uni after it got dark or way too early in the morning, so outfit posts aren’t happening.So I decided to give Polyvore a go and do a couple of sets to show you (kind of) what I’ve been wearing lately. I’m mainly inspired by my favourite era: the 60’s:

- Colour blocking was a big trend this summer, and back in the 60’s they rocked it as well. I’m not a massive fan of colour blocking with several colours, but I think black makes a perfect match with any other colour, so I’ve been black colour blocking lately.

- Also from the 60’s, mini dresses have always been a big part of my life, especially when paired with solid coloured tights (again, I always go for black when colour blocking!)

- When it comes to shoes, I’m definitely not a fan of the 60’s gogo boots. I like to think that I’d only go for the almond toed shoes if I lived back then. I tend to go for the ballerina shoe a lot (looks perfect when paired with a mini dress, I think excessively high heels and boots scream hoochie) but if the rain decides to stop by and say hi, I’m very loyal to my willies (even though people always ask me if I want to do their gardens after uni.. well, at least my feet and nice and dry!)

- Berets are a must for me in the winter: I love to have a warm head, and I always smile every time someone tells me I look like I’ve just popped out of a French 60’s film.

- 60’s make up – is there anything better? Cat eye eyeliner, nude lips, eyelashes that go for miles… I always drool whenever I see pictures of girls from back then, wiching I was one of them. If you match it with beehive hairstyles and/or you’ll be sure to harvest a type of perfection only achieved in that era.

I obviously have to add my own personal touch to the trend, so peter pan collars, messenger bags and long simple necklaces have been featured daily on my outfits.

Hi everyone!

Long time no post, I’m not dead, don’t worry. I’ve been busy with the following:

- Making people's teeth beautiful and healthy
- Working on my Master's dissertation
- Partying like there's no tomorrow
- Beeing hungover (don't judge me, it's my last year of uni!)

So how have you guys been? I’ve been a really happy panda (so hopefully that’s a good excuse for being away from the internet) and even the abnormally long summer didn’t manage to upset me (I’m more of a autumn/winter girl). And even that’s coming to an end since it rained yesterday, so here’s (hopefully) the last summery outfit of 2011 (featuring my favourite dress of this summer)

Peter Pan Love

I'm a lone shopper. I truly deeply hate to shop with friends. Shopping on my own means I get to buy what I want, take the time I want (my friends take A LOT MORE) and, especially, I get to go where I want (pleasing my gamer side, my comic book reader side, my make up addict side and my clothes obsessed side)

Unfortunately, this also means that my relationship with shopping is stuck in a routine, I actually have a little route inside the shopping center. And potentially good shops pass me by because of this habit of mine.

The other day, I had to wait for my mum to meet me, so my rebellious adventurer side kicked in and I went into one of those potentially-good-shops-I-never-dared-to-go-in. And I was amazing at what my eyes were seeing.

There were a couple of other things from the shop I liked but nothing got to me like these shirts. The shop is called Pimkie btw, I'm not sure about where this shop is available worldwide, but I know we have it here in Portugal and Spain and France have it as well.

I learnt my lesson: always be adventurous shopping wise :D

I love the colour block trend going on right now. It's so cheerful, I bet wearing bright pink with bright orange really lightens up your day.

Unfortunately, I'm not bold enough to pull that off. And I'm also at my parents house, where I haven't got that many clothes to play with. So this is what came out of my wardrobe today.

Subscribing to magazines is another thing I love to do, especially when I find inspirational pictures inside my inbox.

Portuguese Love #3 - Playground Love

It's been a while since I've made a post about a portuguese blogger, and it actually is one of my favourite posts to do.

Meet Ana, the blogger behind Playground Love. I've only very recently found her (actually, she found me) and I'm really happy I did: she has a really cute style, great taste in music and, obviously, she's Portuguese, just like me.

Inês: Quando e porque é que começaste um blog? E porque lhe chamaste "Playground Love"
Ana: Para dizer a verdade, o Playground Love não foi o meu primeiro blog. Já ando a "bloggar" há quase dois anos. A ideia surgiu depois de ler um artigo na revista Ragazza portuguesa (que já não é sequer publicada) que falava sobre algumas bloggers. Bem, eu fiquei fascinada com aquilo. Adorei o estilo das raparigas e o mundo dos blogues em geral. Senti que queria fazer parte; que também queria o meu cantinho na blogosfera.
Antes de começar este meu blog, tive um com uma (ex)amiga minha, que se chamava (In)Sane (não se se ainda se lembram dele). Infelizmente acabámos por nos afastar e não me pareceu correcto continuar o blog quando este tinha sido algo que criámos juntas.Chegámos à conclusão de que o melhor seria apagá-lo. Como eu adorava "bloggar", decidi "lançar-me a solo". E assim surgiu o Playground Love.
Quanto ao nome que escolhi, "Playground Love" é uma música dos Air que eu adoro. A música é linda, tem uma melodia muito bonita mesmo. Como eu queria um nome que soasse bem e que não fosse imediatamente associado com moda (porque o meu blog não trata só disso) decidi ficar-me por este. Fiquei bastante satisfeita com a minha escolha.

Inês: When and why did you start a blog? And why did you call it “Playground Love”?
Ana: To be honest, Playground Love wasn’t my first blog. I’ve been blogging for almost two years. I started it after reading an article on the Portuguese Ragazza (which isn’t published anymore) about some bloggers. I was fascinated with it. I loved the girls’ style and the blog world in general. I felt I wanted to be a part of it; that I wanted my little spot on the blogosphere.
Before I started my blog, I had another one with an (ex)friend, called (In)Sane (I don’t know if you remember it). Unfortunately, we drove apart and it didn’t seem right to keepthe blog we made together. We decided the best thing to do would be deleting it. Since I loved blogging, O decided to “go solo”. Hence Playground Love.
As for the name, “Playground Love” is an Air song that I love. The song’s beautiful, it has a really pretty melody. Since I wanted a name that sounded well and that wasn’t instantly associated with fashion (because my blog isn’t only about that) I decided to use this one. I was pretty happy about my choice.

I: Onde te inspiras quando crias um "outfit"?
A:Em tanta coisa! Naquilo que vejo em blogues, em revistas, pessoas que passam na rua. Muita coisa mesmo. Qualquer coisa me pode servir de inspiração. Mas os meus outfits não são tão elaborados assim. Aliás, considero o meu estilo bastante simples :)

I: What inspires you to create an outfit?
A: So many things! What I see on blogs, magazines, people on the street. A lot of things really. Anything can be inspiring. But my outfits aren’t that elaborated. I actually consider my style to be quite simple :)

I:Quais são as tuas lojas favoritas? Fazes compras online e/ou em segunda mão?
A: Lojas favoritas, bem, são as do costume: Zara, Stradivarius, Mango. De vez em quando dou um saltinho à Massimo Dutti e à Pepe Jeans, mas não tenho por hábito comprar lá nada, particularmente porque as peças não são tão acessíveis assim. Mas tem coisas tão lindas, que não resisto mesmo a entrar lá.
Compras online nunca fiz! Adoro ver roupa pela internet, mas não sei se valerá a pena comprar online. Dá-se o caso de não servir e lá temos nós que enviar de volta. Ainda por cima, no meu caso, os meus tamanhos nunca são certos, por isso seria um grande risco. Gosto de experimentar antes de comprar, para poder ter uma ideia de como fica, do material, etc. Compras em segunda mão só fiz uma vez mas adorava repetir a experiência. Não tenho nenhuns problemas em usar roupa em segunda mão; e a verdade é que por vezes se encontram grandes achados.

I: What are your favourite shops? Do you shop online/second hand?
A: Favourite shops, well, the usual: Zara, Stradivarius, Mango. From time to time I stop by Massimo Dutti and Pepe Jeans, but I don’t usually buy anything there, especially because their garments aren’t that accessible. But they have beautiful pieces, I can’t resist to go in there.
I’ve never online shopped! I love to online window shop, but I don’t know if it’s worth it to buy online. If it doesn’t fit we have to ship it back. Plus, in my case, the sizes are never right, so it would be a big risk. I like to try clothes one before buying, so I have an idea of how it fits, what the fabric feels like, etc.
I’ve only bought second hand once, but I’d love to repeat it. I haven’t got any issues against wearing second hand; truth be told, you can make great finds sometimes.

I: O que achas da crescente comunidade de "fashion bloggers" portuguesas?
A: Ter um blog é fantástico. Proporciona imensas oportunidades, e conhecemos pessoas fantásticas pelo caminho. Acho óptimo que pessoas com imenso jeito e talento no toca ao mundo da moda e da arte tenham o reconhecimento que merecem através do seu blog. Sem dúvida é um bom ponto de partida para aqueles que querem algo nesse ramo, porque as fashion bloggers hoje em dia são cada vez mais conhecidas e é por causa de muitas delas que certas tendências se espalham. Adoro ver que o nosso pequeno Portugal tem blogues tão bons como os de outros países mais conhecidos. Deixa-me orgulhosa. No entanto, e isto é como tudo na vida, há aspectos positivos e aspectos negativos. Há blogues muito bons, sim. Mas também há deles que não valem nada (não quero ofender ninguém). Muita gente sabe que a comunidade de fashion bloggers tem vindo a crescer cada vez mais e por isso muita gente quer "juntar-se à festa" para ganhar alguma notoriedade. Não quero parecer negativa nem nada, mas é isto que penso.

I:What do you thing of the growing Portuguese fashion blogger community?
A: Having a blog is great. It can pave way for several opportunities, and allows you to meet fantastic people on the way. I think it’s great that people with talent on the fashion and art world have the credit they deserve through their blogs. Without a doubt, it is a good starting point for those who want to be recognized in that area, especially because fashion bloggers are recognized more and more each day, and it’s because of them that some trends are followed. I love to see that our small Portugal has great blogs just like other countries. It makes me proud. There are a lot of good blogs, yes. But there also worthless blogs (without offending anyone). A lot of people knows that the fashion blogger community is growing and a lot of people “want in” just to gain some publicity. I don’t want to sound negative, but that’s what I think.

I: A minha pergunta favorita: se tivesses um super poder, qual seria? Porquê?
A: Hahaha, esta pergunta é espectacular mesmo. Pode parecer estranho, mas ainda há poucos dias tive que responder a esta mesma pergunta. Foi no Pottermore (sou uma grande fã de Harry Potter), e já aí foi imensamente difícil escolher uma opção. Será que posso ir com a mesma resposta que dei lá!?!? Mudar o passado. Não sei se é este tipo de super poder que tinhas em mente mas era este que eu escolheria. E por uma razão muito simples: uma das coisas que mais odeio é sentir arrependimento. Odeio mesmo. Odeio sentir que poderia ter feito alguma coisa e não fiz, e que nada pode mudar isso. Viver a vida sem arrependimentos deve ser fantástico. Por isso mesmo escolheria este super poder. Ou isso ou ser invisível. Isso deve ser awesome!

I: My favourite question: if you had a superpower, what would it be and why?
A:Hahaha, this question really is awesome. This might sound weird, but I had to answer to this question a few days ago. It was on Pottermore (I’m a huge Potterhead), and even then it was a really hard decision. Can I choose the same one ?!?! Change the past. I don’t know if this is the kind of superpower you were thinking about, but it’s the one I would choose. And for a really simple reason: one of the things I hate the most is to feel regret. I really hate it. I hate to feel I could have done something and didn’t, and can’t do anything to change it. Living life without regrets must be awesome. For that reason, I would choose this superpower. That or being invisible. That must be awesome!

I: Que filme recomendarias? E música?
A: Esta pergunta deixou-me toda entusiasmada! Filmes e músicas são coisas que adoro, por isso ter a oportunidade de falar disso.......I feel like a kid in a candy store!
No que diz respeito a filmes, os géneros que prefiro são drama e thrillers. Se bem que também vejo filmes de outros géneros, acontece é que estes são os que mais gosto. Agora, escolher só um filme para recomendar é difícil. Tenho vários favoritos! Mas aqueles que mais gosto são Tetro, (500) days of Summer (já todos devem ter visto este filme, mas é tão fixe que não podia deixar de o mencionar), The King´s Speech e claro Harry Potter (mas leiam primeiro os livros; os livros são muito melhores).
Quanto a música recomendo, sem qualquer hesitação, Pink Floyd. Sou fã da música deles, completamente. É daquelas coisas que sempre esteve comigo. Lembro-me que quando era pequena o meu pai ouvia Pink Floyd e, apesar de eu não ter capacidade para entender mesmo a música deles, ela ficava comigo. Mais tarde, comecei a ouvi-los sozinha e apercebi-me da complexidade das músicas, das letras e da sua verdadeira dimensão. Mas não ouço só Pink Floyd, vá.
Algumas das bandas que mais ouço passam maioritariamente por rock progressivo ou indie/alternativo. Como Arctic Monkeys, Yes, Franz Ferdinand, Beach House, Camera Obscura; só para nomear algumas. Recentemente também comecei a ouvir Bon Iver e estou a adorar. É muito bonita e calminha a música deles, por isso também recomendo.

I: What film would you recommend? And music?
A: I got really excited about this question! Films and music are something I love, so having the the chance to talk about it… I feel like a kid in a candy store!
When it comes to films, my favourite genres are dramas and thillers. I watch other genres too, but these are my favourite. Choosing just one film to recommend is hard, I’ve got several favourites! But the ones I enjoy the most are: Tetro, (500) Days of Summer (I bet everyone’s watched this film, but I couldn’t help but mention it), The King’s Speech and, of course, Harry Potter (but read the books first, they are so much better).
About music, I recommend, without doubt, Pink Floyd. I’m a fan, definitely. It’s one of those things that’s always been there. I rememeber my dad listening to it when I was young and, even though I couldn’t really understand their music, it stuck with me. Later, I started to listen to them on my own, and realized the complexity of their songs, lyrics and their true dimension. But I don’t just listen to Pink Floyd.
The bands I like are mainly progressive rock or indie/alternative. Arctic Monkeys, Yes, Franz Ferdinand, Beach House, Camera Obscura, just to name a few. I’ve recently started to listen to Bon Iver and I’m really enjoying it. Their music is really nice and calm, so I recommend it as well.

But then miss Deschanel (or should I say, Mrs Gibbard?) comes and spoils it all by doing something stupid like... having long hair and a fringe.

Dinner party outfit

I don't really know how to dress to go out. I already wear dresses pretty much everyday, and I wear my trusty eyeliner without giving it a break, so dressing up a little bit without being too over the top is quite complicated (I'm not talking cocktail/formal party dressing up, those are rather fun!)

So this is what I wore to a little dinner party my mum held due to of one of the books she published.

I thought black would make anything look dressier, but I just had to throw a fun skirt in, otherwise I'd look like I was 50 on my way to a funeral.
I usually don't like to wear a skirt this short without tights, epecially when I have heels under my feet, but since the top's cleavage is so close to my neck, I thought it wouldn't blatently say "SLAG!"

I know, I know, I'm a horrible blogger. Long story short, here's what happened this summer:

- I went to north east England;
- Some idiot english bloke intentionally poured water on my laptop and ruined it, so now I have no pictures of my holidays. Actually, I have no pictures at all;
- I spent my bday traveling and crying, with an overweight bag, no money and a broken heel;
- I'm in a long term relationship with my xbox and we love each other more and more each day;
- I bought too many clothes and xbox games for my birthday. (self control? I have no idea what you're talking about!).

So now I have a makeshift laptop, I can go back to my normal blogging pace (and tbh I kind of missed it^^) Here's an outfit from a couple of days ago!

Kudos for this outfit actually go to my mum, I didn't think a striped tee would go well with this skirt, but for some reason it kind of works. And the bag was love at first sight, as soon as I walked in Primark and saw it making the eyes at me, I knew we were meant to be.
Plus, I think it's time for a haircut. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do with this much hair!

A few days ago, when I went to see Harry Potter, I went shopping with my mum. The shopping centre is right next to my old high school and I felt rather nostalgic after I saw it.

This was my second high school, the first one was right up the street, but I changed schools to be close to the boy I liked (lesson learnt: changing schools because of your boyfriend IS a good idea!). Anyway, here’s what I was wearing!

Random drives - Gois

On weekends me and my parents like to go on random drives: we drive in one direction until we find something worth seeing. A few days ago, we stopped at Góis, a village near where my parents live. But on our way, we passed by a village called Alegria, which literally means “happiness” or “joy” in Portuguese. I though it would be appropriate to take a photo like this:

The village is right next to a beautiful river, and it has a café right ON the river, so we obviously had a drink there.

I think I just found the perfect place to do my master’s thesis next year (yeah, next year I won’t spend june and july studying… I’ll spend it working. Niiiiice!)

Everyday outfit

You know those days when you haven't got the time to put an outfit together? Well, this is what I wear when that happens. I guess I've worn something similar to this before on my blog, but oh well, here it is

Even though it's a really practical outfit, it gathers a lot of my favourite things: stripes, skinny jeans and ballerina shoes. And the necklaces I wear everyday. They get chunkier and chunkier. So far, my necklaces include a vintage pocket watch, from my granddad, a very old key from my nana's old house down in the south, a fake pocket watch from Springfield and a very weird pendant that my nana gave me. I love it how every single one of those little pendants has a story to tell!

Super Bock Super Rock '11!

A couple of days ago I went to my very first Portuguese music festival. I didn't stay for the full 3 days because me and camping are just not the best of friends, and even though I really wanted to see the bands that were playing on the last day, we decided to go and come back on the same day (I was very happy to find friends who loathed tents aswell!)

After a long drive, loads of delay due to traffic..

...we managed to get to the festival RIGHT AFTER the first band we wanted to see finished.

So long Mr. Pritchard, I guess I'll see your pretty face next time I get a chance to see The Kooks!

We did manage to get there in tome to see Beirut though, which probably sounded alot better than it was because of the most amazing hot dog I've had in my life (does this make sense? LOL)

And here's an attempt at an outfit picture. A VERY failed attempt.

The last band we saw were Arctic Monkeys, and I obviously had a big haired person RIGHT in front of me.

I must say I was a bit disappointed with the show, Alex Turner was either baked or bored to death, and even though their songs sound REALLY good live, his "look at me I'm a rock star I don't give a rat's bum about this" attitude was a bit of a let down.

By the end of the show we ate an AWESOME hot dog, chocked a bit on all the dust (btw, all the dots you see on the pictures are bits of dust!) and then drove all the way home.

I struggled REALLY hard to stay awake during the 3 hour journey home, but I wanted to keep my friend who was driving company. And to achieve that, we listened to old punk rock, translated the lyrics and sang really loud (our friends in the back managed to stay asleep though).

Clothes: Topshop's A/W '11 collection

I know, Primark and Asos.com had pretty good collections aswell, but Topshop holds a special place in my heart.

Novelty knit sweaters, Chelsea boots, 60's/40's influences, boy-ish looks... it's perfect! Check out the whole preview of the collection HERE.

Make-up: Red Earth Lash Treatment Base

This was my very first purchase from Red Earth, and I'm glad I did it, because ever since I have bought really good products from them.
I don't wear a lot of make up: I never wear foundation, I rarely do eye-shadows... but I do always wear A LOT of eye-liner. And very recently I started using mascara aswell, even though my lashes are pretty normal sized, mascara made them pop alot more (obviously). But since I'm really into the whole 60's eye look, I wanted fake lashes without having fake lashes, and that's where this product comes in. I apply it before my mascara and it makes my lashes SOOO much fuller. And they don't fall as often! Fuller, longer AND healthier lashes? Yes please!

TV Show: Heroes

For a reaaaally long time I have said bad things about this TV show without even seeing it. For some reason, I thought I would be disappointed, since super powers and super heroes are KIND OF my thing. But when I randomly saw the first episode on TV when I was at Tróia with my friends, I was completely hooked. As soon as I got home I saw the first season non stop and loved it. Right now I'm at the end of the 4th season, and even though this last season wasn't as good as the previous ones, I'm still rather sad it's coming to an end =/

Film: Fantastic Planet

My dad told me about this film, apparently he watched it when he was my age. After he told me the plot, I absolutely had to see it: it's about this planet where there are two main species: big blue aliens (The Draggs) and tiny humans (the Oms). The Oms are like pets to the Draggs: they dress them up, put collars on them.. things like that. Eventually one of the Oms, Terr, gets pissed off with this whole thing, runs away and the Oms decide to fight for their freedom.
The great thing about this film is the opposition between the high technology of the Draggs and the brutal way they deal with Oms. Plus, this is a very trippy film, but hey, it was the 70's and no-one noticed back then. And I love how the characters and species are named, very cool.

Music: Beirut

I started re-listening to them after I knew they'd be at Super Bock Super Rock and re-discovering how much I like them was the real reason why I bought the ticket. Not only Zachary Condon is super cute, but the music he and his bandmates make is the perfect combination on folk (think Russian-ish) and indie. I find their music perfect to relax before (and after) I study. Plus, I think one of their albums is going straight to my car, I bet it'll make the trips from and to uni very pleasant.

Books: I haven't really read any books this month. Well, I have, but unless you want to know about dental stuff, they don't count!

Yesterday was my dad's 58th birthday, and I went home to be with him and my mum. We went out for lunch and then my parents went for a random drive and I stayed at a cafe studying surgery.

sucks cause I LOVE random drives. We always find great places!

It wasn't all bad though, when I got sick of studying surgery at the cafe, I decided to go home to study, but unfortunately the pool was looking way to yummy, so my study stopped there.

I am off to my uni town to take my surgery exam, hopefully I wont regret yesterday's swim!
On the bright side, I bought tickets for my VERY FIRST Portuguese music festival!

I'll probably buy another ticket for a different festival tomorrow, so make that my first Portuguese festivalS! I'm going to see Arctic Monkeys, Beirut, The Kooks, The National and more importantly INTERPOL. Hells yeah.

(I say surgery a lot on this post. I'm probably getting Tourette's from the study trauma.)

A trip down memory lane

This is actually what I wore in 2007, except for the trousers (I was REALLY skinny back then. I've put on 10kg since!) But they are pretty much the same as the ones I wore back then. I really miss being 19: being a freshman for the second time, falling deeply in love, staying up all night listening to music, dying my hair REALLY ginger... good times!

Back then, the music I listened to really influenced my clothes: I loved pastel colours, chunky neclaces, a lot of bracelets, REALLY skinny jeans, Vans' slip ons, cable knit cardigans... I listened mostly happy cheerful songs, with a lot of indie folk and math rock.

Yes, Primark's new collection for this autumn/winter was pretty good, but as I went on asos.com to stock up on some Benefit goodies I decided to check their new stuff. And how I wish I didn't.

A burgundy and mustard palette, horse prints and boy flowy bows... it looks like they went to my imaginary perfect wardrobe and put them all on a website just to taunt me. Me and all the british heritage lovers out there.

It has been impossibly hot lately: my room's blinds are as shut as they get, I shower twice a day, I can't drive because my car came straight out of hell and I'll get 3rd degree burns if I touch the steering wheel, and I can't walk either, otherwise I'll instantly evaporate.

That's why I was a happy panda when I woke up and saw a BEAUTIFUL gray sky! I actually managed to leave my house, and this is what I was wearing:

I really have to stop looking around the internet, because it ALWAYS ends in heartbreak. This time, it's Primark's Autumn/Winter collection. The whole 60's vibe, opaque tights, peter pan collars and daring colours REALLY got to me. For a moment there I thought I was browsing through TBA's lookbook, but when I realised the cable knit was 14£ I snapped back to reality.

And here's where I started getting eye candy diabetes:

Now, I know there are a couple of Primarks in Portugal, so since I'm not going to England that often anymore I need to find them, go there and splurge until my bank account goes empty. Hopefully my mum will join me on this monetary suicide because my puppy eyes get me alot more than my modest bank account can.

I know, I'm kind of obsessed! But they're so versatile! You can wear them casually or they can be really dressy!

Plus, this outfit includes two other passions of mine: retro floral patterns and polka dot tights. Maybe lace combined with polka dots AND retro flowers is too much, but I love it no matter what!

And just so there are no doubts about my obsession with lace dresses, here's what I'm very tempted to get (and it's only 17,49£!)

Even though I can't find it on the Portuguese website (and even if I could I don't think H&M ships to Portugal) I might consider going through every H&M to find it. Or ask someone to have it shipped over. Or, I don't know, make one myself (NOT). WHY ARE YOU SO BEAUTIFUL, YOU EVIL DRESS?!

For the next couple of weeks I got my last exams (hopefully I won't have to retake anything) and that means that the internet just got more and more exciting (my computer is a black hole that sucks my productive study hours, but for some reason the interestingness partially disappears when I'm a holiday). I only saw this show when I was in England, but since that's not going to happen until late August, I might aswell just download a few episodes/watch it on Youtube. StumbleUpon showed me this website (yet another BRILLIANT way to spend precious study time) and it's perfect to find new bands according to your taste. Either by searching similar artists or listening to random songs according to genre, this has brightened up my day so much that everytime I manage to focus on the study of gums I find myself screaming "THAT SONG IS AMAZING" Here's a little playlist I've been ruining due to the amount of numbers it has been on repeat:

I've seen this, erm, "tag" around a few months (maybe years) ago, and now I've seen it again on a friend and I decided to make my own (because I think every single person's result is absolutely awesome)

And here's what you have to do for this "tag":

#1 - Go to Wikipedia :Random article and whatever article you get, that's your band's name;

#2 - Go to Flickr's Last 7 days interesting and choose one of the images you get. That's your album cover;

#3 - Go to The quotation's page's random quotes and choose the last 4/5 words of the second quote you get. That's your album's name.

Now go to photoshop/paint/whatever photo editing software you use and put them all together and make your album cover!

Hello!

Long time no speak! It's been aaaages since my last post, and since then I've done so much at uni it's unbelievable.
But this is my first week of holidays (well, without patients, cause I still have exams... le sigh), so I have a little bit more free time. And I spent some of that time with my clone: my mum (I'm thinking maybe I'm her clone. But I'll let you judge the resemblances yourselves).

It was her birthday last friday, and she and my dad came to my uni town for the day. OBVIOUSLY we spent the afternoon shopping, and she treated me to a couple of pieces, including my dream blazer:

Antoher one of my "hey, this is Portugal" post. This time, I'll show you the place where me and my friends went to on the week we were supposed to go to a dental meeting (but we decided sand and salt water sounded better), so this will be more of a "hey, look at me and my friends having fun while we should be learing!".
Very narcissistic of me, I know.

Not only the beach was amazing (clear warm water, gigantic shells, almost no peolpe (even though the last one was due to the fact that we went there in the middle of the week, while people are still at work))

We didn't just swim and sit in the sun: we also went to town from time to time, it was quite beautiful, but unfortunately my photography skills are terrible. Here's an example of the horror I shot:

Fun fact: I haven't been to the beach for the past FOUR YEARS. And I live about 40km of the sea.How sad is this? Ever since I changed universities and came to my current uni I have been either so busy or so tired that I just can't be bothered to leave the house.

Oh hai!

I know I've been away for a while, but I'm trying to make the best out of these weeks without exams, going for a couple of drinks every night with my friends, because soon all I'll have is books about teeth and loads of coffee to keep me up.

Yesterday I got home really late, so I didn't have the time to post anything. So here's what happened yesterday:

I'll try to fix yesterday's pictures, but I doubt anything good comes out of it. Meh. Ow well, at least today the sun came out to make me happy!

Hells yeah, finally... the holidays are here! And obviously I've been really busy...in my jammies...on the xbox... for the past four days. I know, I need to get a life.
But since I have an exam next week, I decided to go to the local library for some good old fashion revision, and this is what I wore:

I just came out this month in Portugal, and as soon as I got the opportunity I grabbed my car and went straight to Porto to get me some of these babies.
Of course they were really expensive. And really big. So I just got a blush. Which shattered a couple of days ago. *gutted* I tried to fix it, but I still have to wait for it to dry properly to see if I succeeded or not. ANYWAYS the Mighty Aphrodite blush was my everyday go-to blush (after my Topshop cream blush obviously) and I'm quite happy about the 24€ I spent on it!

Book: Franz Kafka's "The Trial"

I read this book before, I only went for it because when I was ill earlier last month I had nothing new to read, and I was quite indecisive between Kafka and Murakami (my favourite authors).
So I went with Kafka. And I don't regret it. I thought it wouldn't be as fun to read the second time round, but I'm happy to say I was wrong.

TV Show: Better With You

Still hooked on Desperate Housewives. But in between episodes (which rarely happens) I've been watching Better With You, and so far I really like it. It's one of those shows I like to watch when there's too much going on at uni and I just want to see something that doesn't require thinking (lol) and just lights up my mood. My go-to tv show for this purpose used to be How I Met Your Mother, but for some reason I kind of bored of it, and Better With You filled the void perfectly.

Film: Apollo 13
Me and my dad have this unhealthy obsession with space. We both have "see a rocket launch" on our bucket list. And the whole of the Apollo program is my own personal obsession. So it came as quite a shock that I hadn't seen this before.
Plus, this film is great, not just for Saturn V fans like myself, but it's really entertaining (even my mum liked it, and she loathes space) and if you want to know where the famous "Huston we have a problem" quote's origin is, you have to watch this.

God, this makes me want to work at Nasa and say all the "we have go for launch!" things ^^

Music: Youth Group

I heard them for the first time back in 2005, when I bought a Punk-O-Rama album, and it was instant love. Then I found out they also have one of the most popular covers of Alpaville's "Forever Young", but their original stuff really got to me.
Their albums have been forgotten on my parents house, but for some reason I felt like listening to them again lately, and I'm glad I did, they're pretty awsome.

Ow, how I wish space travel was an everyday thing for everyone on my lifetime. Damn you Star Wars for creating expectations!

Penedo da Saudade - Coimbra

Last week was kind of hectic (student festival at my uni, post coming soon lol), so it felt really nice to come home to my parents.
As usual, me and my mum always go for little walks around town (after we go for a little shopping, of course), and this time we decided to go somewhere nice to eat our sundaes. Here's pictures of the beautiful Penedo da Saudade (which roughly translated means rock of nostalgia, or something like that)

This place has a lot of engraved poems and Fado lyrics all around the garden, and it's quite a nice romantic place to go (so obviously you'll see alot of lovebirds around. It's quite depressing really, if you don't have a boyfriend)

Also, from here you get a nice view of part of the town

You can actually see my old house from here (well, I can, it's among the other pile of houses on the top right corner):

I remember coming here as a little girl, saying that when I grew up, I'd live in one of these houses, and now I know why. The whole art deco influenced architecture thingie (that I obviously don't know much about) has always held a special place in my heart.

You know people that are so cute that they make EVERY SINGLE THING they wear look perfect? Now picture one of those people with flawless personal style.... pretty inspirational, yeah?
Those were my thoughts exactly the first time I saw Amanda on Flickr! Here's some eye candy and a little interview so we can get to know her better ^^

Inês: How would you describe your personal style?
Amanda: Whimsical and girly with a little bit of a grungy side. I own a ridiculous amount of summery floral dresses and skirts that I love pairing with leather jackets and ripped tights. I also have a thing for crazy hair. :)

I:When and why did you start blogging?
A:I started blogging in April of 2008. My blog started out as a place for me to post client sneak peeks and special deals for my business, but it gradually grew into a place where my readers can get to know me and what I've been up to. I post sneak peeks for clients, as well as little bits and pieces from my (crazy) life and things that inspire me. And I love doing giveaways for my readers!

I:Who is your style icon? Where do you go for inspiration?
A:I don't think there is any one person I look up to as a style icon. I find myself marking pages in magazines and catalogues when I like the way an outfit is put together, and then I recreate it with pieces in my own closet. I do have a small notebook where pictures of all my favorite outfits from the Wardrobe Remix group on Flickr are stashed, and I go to it on days I'm lacking inspiration.

I: If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
A: To control the weather! I think every photographer secretly vies for this power. I'd love to be able to move clouds in when I need them, make that light breeze that barely blows their hair, move the sun where I need it, and keep the temp at about 72 degrees at all times. ;) I also think it'd be fun to be invisible sometimes.

I: If you could live in any era/time period, what would it be?
A: I've always had a special place in my heart for the 60s. I went through quite a little hippie faze for awhile. (I even have a little peace sign tattooed on my foot!)

I: What is your favourite band/singer? And your favourite film?
A: My favorite band will always be The Format. I'm still not over the fact that they broke up three years ago! I love each and every one of their songs and can relate to so many of them. Favorite movie.. Well.. Random fact about me: I can be extremely ADD. I have a really difficult time sitting through movies, and I seldom watch the same movie more than once. However, I can quote Hot Rod all the way through and have probably seen it over 100 times. :)

Since MAC's Wonderwoman collection only hit the stores last week, I ran to the closest MAC counter as soon as uni allowed me to.
Unfortunately, it wasn't soon enough, since most of the things I wanted were already sold out. So I ended up just getting a blush and a spending the rest of my money on non Wonder Woman related stuff. Gutted.
Anyways, here what I was wearing (excuse the face and hair, it was REALLY windy on that bridge and in case you're wondering, I don't have cankles. I have 4 pairs of tights):

After that I decided to try my luck at Sephora, but there was a street protest going on (with 80000 people) so obviously there was no more shopping for anyone. Double gutted. I'm really proud that everyone came out to try and change the dire situtation on our country, but I kinda drove about +100km to get to Sephora, people!!

BTW, Rango was a bit of a disappointment aswell. I thought it wasn't really appropriate for kids on some parts. The only thing I REALLY liked was Waffles, not just because he's really cute, but because on the Portuguese version he's got the accent from where I'm studying, and I find that really really funny!

Pedra da Ferida - Espinhal (Forests and waterfalls)

Since many people out there know nothing about my country (everytime I'm abroad I'm asked stupid questions like "Have you been to the Algarve? It's close to Portugal!" or "OMG I speak your language HOLA YO SOY INGLESA!") and to be honest it really bugs me.

So if you guys don't know much about my dear country, I'm starting a new "feature" on my blog, posting pictures of nice places I visit within my beautiful country. I have posted a few places I went to before here, here and here. And today me and my parents went somewhere really worth visiting, and I was actually amazed at what I found.

{Pedra Ferida (Espinhal). Next to Penela}

It was quite hard to get there, and I'm not talking about the narrow dirt roads. From the point when we parked the car to the actual waterfall it was quite a climb (I was ok with it and found it fun, but my parents weren't that happy. Well, my mum wasn't. Let's just keep in mind they're a few months away from the 60's and I'm in my early 20's).

Note about the next photo: if you're not Portuguese you won't get it. I'm just pretending to be a part of a comedy show from the 90's. (Não sei se alguém se lembra disto também, mas eu quando era pequena adorava esta personagem do Herman, e eu e o meu pai achámos esta trepadeira perfeita para sermos parvos e imitarmos isto. Claro que a minha mãe decidiu guardar o momento para a posteridade)

The track we have to follow is actually quite a treat for the eyes, with a few little warm up cascades

We got to the waterfalls in about 20/30 minutes and the biggest smile appeared on my face when I saw it.

I wasn't expecting such a big waterfall, I thought it would be only a couple meters tall, so it was a really pleasant surprise!

The way down back to the car was actually quite fun, because my mum was wearing kitten heels and kept holding on to my dad for support (FAIL mum. Wellies next time! Even though mine were filled with mud in the end, but I managed to clean them at the stream)

If you put the bad photography aside, this is a really nice place to visit and spend a calm afternoon. I just wouldn't recommend going there in the summer, even though the summer sunlight would make it even more beautiful, this place is wonderful for snakes to settle and build their homes. Just saying.

little rant:

when i was 12, I would spend my time with one of these things:

dinosaurs, pokemon, tv shows, portuguese kings and consoles. NOT concerned about clothes, make up, shoes, fashion... I actually thought high heels and boys were the stupidest things on Earth.
But either I was a very late blossom, or these kids today are growing up too fast. Take Elle Fanning for example. The 12 year old looks at least my age and more beautiful than I ever will. Creeps me out to be honest.

I'm just hoping my kids will have a normal lasting childhood. It's definitely the bast part of life.

PS: Happy World Book Day! Since I was quite ill today (I couldn't even go to uni) I decided to start re-reading Franz Kafka's "The Trial" which is one of my all time favourite books from one of my all time favourite authors, so it's always a great read.

Crookedly beautiful

Ok, so this isn't a style related post. I feel like talking about a subject that bothers me A LOT, especially when I take into account what I'm going to do for the rest of my life. People often ask me why I don't close a little gap I have in my teeth, since I'm a year and a half from becoming a dentist and all. And here's the answer:

I think crooked teeth are beautiful.

Ok, let's not generalize, I thik HEALTHY crooked teeth that are taken care of are beautiful. The first thing I notice when I'm talking to someone is their teeth, and I love it when they're not perfect. And it really bothers me that some people give into pressure and change the way their teeth look. Like Kirsten Dunst, who went from beeing this cute

See? If they had perfect teeth...yes, they would be magazine cover perfect, but they would also lose all interest and would lack that little thing that makes them unique.
I struggle with this everyday when patients ask me if they should straighten their teeth or not, and all I want to answer is I THINK YOUR TEETH ARE BEAUTIFUL! If they are uncomfortable/hard to clean, then yes, get them sorted. If not...that's your little personal touch!

So if you have crooked teeth... love them! I love my little gap between my central and lateral incisors. It's cute. My boyfriend has a gap in between his front teeth and I think it's the most adorable thing ever!

Here are a few things I've been loving for the month of February:

Clothes - Berets

I have a few berets in my collection (I'm up to 13 now) but there's never too many. My last purchase was a leopard print one (which came as quite a shock to my friends since I'm not big on this pattern) and I love it to bits. I still didn't get the chance to wear it, but fellow bloggers help me get some inspiration!

Make up - Garnier's 2 in 1 Tinted Roll-on Anti Dark Circles.

This LITERALLY saves my life every morning. After I get up and wash my face, I REALLY don't want to put foundation or concealer on because I don't need it and I don't like the "caked" look. I sometimes put on a bit of Benefit's You Rebel lite when redness decides to pop up and say hello, but usually... I just look tired. And this little baby does everything for me. Not only it de-puffs my dark circles, it also conceals them, but without looking flawless...like a tinted concealer, if you will.
The non tinted one works just as fine, but the de-puffing takes a while, and the slight coverage gives me the feeling that I'm instantly looking less tired.
A couple of my friends from uni worship me because ever since they tried this, they stopped beeing so worried about their dark circles!

Book - Assassin's Creed: Renaissance

For the past couple of months the only books I got to read were either textbooks about teeth and deseases or notes...about teeth and deseases. So when exams were over it was nice to start reading again... up to the point that I knew the whole plot of the book. I bought Assassin's Creed because I really like the game series, but Renaissance is almost the exact novelization of Assassin's Creed II... and that sucked the fun out of it.
I think I would recommend this for people who haven't played the game and are into the whole Renaissance era, and like a good action book... but yet again, if you haven't played the game you might get a bit lost and not enjoy it one bit. You will definitely enjoy this though:

Plus, I was really upset that they didn't include Desmond and the Animus. I really liked the whole concept.

TV Show - Desperate Housewives.

I started watching this with my grandmother when we spent the weekend together, and I'm totally addicted to it! I seriously can't stop watching, I used to think it was just another girly show, but it is so much more than that! My grandmother say's I'm Susan, she's as clumsy and absent minded as I am, and her favourite character is obviously Bree.
I can't believe I'm addicted to the same TV show as my grandmother! :D We're addicted to the bloopers aswell xD

Film - The King's Speech

Yet again, Grandma has something to do with this. We were meant to go watch this together because she liked the trailer, but she had to leave sooner and we didn't get the chance to go. So when my friend's asked me to go to the cinema, we went for this film and we all enjoyed it. Needless to say that Helena Bonham Carter was amazing (and I'm not just saying this because she's probably my favourite actress), and I actually started liking Colin Firth, whom I didn't really like after seen Love Actually, A Single Man or Mamma Mia. But I suppose this film together with Pride and Prejudice get him back to my good list.
Plus, I actually cried when someone took the mick out of King George. But yet again I cry really easily when people are hurt. I'm so lame.

It's been a VERY long time since I posted something, mostly because I've been busy:

-Having exams
-Treating people's teeth
-Wearing one of two things: scrubs or PJs (check the 2 above)
-Compulsively watching Desperate Housewives (already halfway through season 3, thank you for hooking me on this Grandma!)
- Eating a lot a lot A LOT of nachos. That stuff is goooooood.

And today, I've been wearing this:

Going out for a LITTLE bit, but everything is an excuse to try on my new peter pan collar!

On other news, I was given 2 awards, one from "Bad Taste Toast"'s Carina and another one from "Valium and Cherry Wine"'s Rita.

The first one is for me to tell you seven facts about me. Ok, here we go:

#1 - I'm a very clumsy OCD. (If you know me you know what I mean). I have a place for everything, very neatly organized, but when I'm not in the mood I just throw everything on the floor. I'm working on it though (new year's resolution!)

#2 - I collect berets, comics and dvds.

#3 - I love dentistry, but I hate going to uni.

#4 - I love to drive alone, listening to music and singing out loud. It's one of my favourite things to do

#5 - ironically, I suffer from road rage. If someone pisses me off (aka high beams, horn, middle finger), I get possessed by 1001 demons and chase that person, doing exactly the same to them. One time I even got out of the car and started arguing. And obviously got punched.

#6 - I love chips. Sometimes, I wish there were no leftovers so I could fry a big bowl of chips and enjoy the fatness within

#7 - I call my cats Puss in Boots and Puma in Boots. Even though those are not their real names. But they're so cuuuuuuuuuuute! Try to resist this:

And the second award comes with questions for me to answer!

Question one: why did you create the blog?

Actually, it was because of Riikka, I mentioned her before. I was absolutely obsessed with her blog, Only Shallow. Unfortunately, she deleted it and created a Finnish blog (which is ok, but I don't understand it) and I miss her old outfits. And now she deleted her Flickr account too, which sucks even more.

Question two: what kind of blogs do you follow?

I follow personal style and make up blogs. I'm not really into proper fashion blogs, since I'm not interested in following current fashion. I like to see everyone doing their own thing, that's where the real inspiration comes from.

Question three: favourite makeup brand?

MAC. Definitely. But Benefit is a strong second.
But now MAC because they're coming up with a WONDER WOMAN COLLECTION.
Damn you MAC people! First you make me buy Disney, now Wonder Woman! I'm skint, come up with a boring hello kitty collection!

Question four: favourite clothing brand?

This is a hard one. I don't really look for labels, I look for certain designs. H&M used to be my go to shop but latelly their collections have been rather dissapointing. I love Zara's current collection. It's pretty much perfect.

Question five: your indispensable makeup product?

I have two. I CANNOT live without black eyeliner and blusher.

Question six: your favourite colour?

Green

Question seven: your perfume?

CH by Carolina Herrera. It's perfect!

Question eight: your favourite film?

Obviously the original Star Wars trilogy are my go to DVD's, but I'm really into Disney Pixar films, and Sci-Fi in general. I tend not to like serious films or sad films because I like to be entertained by something that makes me happy, I don't understand why people watch something that makes them sad. Ow and I don't like horror films. I once watched Saw and since then I can't get into my car without checking if someone's in the back seat. That film freaked the hell out of me.

Question nine: what country would you like to visit and why?

FINLAND. And Sweden. Because they're like THE BEST COUNTRIES EVER. Duh.

Portuguese Love #2 - Black Sheep

I'm always really happy when I found tasteful and stylish portuguese bloggers, and the girl I'm feauturing today really makes me happy because:

1- She's from my hometown
2- She has the same job as my mum and it's one of the professions I admire the most
3- Her birthday is one day before mine :)

And apart from the random facts, I really like her style, it's very accessible, with girly and vintage highlights.
Let's get to know her a bit better, shall we?

I: Why and when did you start a blog?
R: I created a blog in 2007, influenced by my boyfriend, but it was about trivial stuff, and I rarely updated it. In 2008 I read an article about style blogs in Ragazza magazine (which is not published in Portugal anymore) and I became a fan of some of the blogs on there. After reading those blogs daily, and finding new ones through them, I decided to change my old blog, deleted most of the previous posts, and it became my personal style blog, among other things, and it's lasted for more than two years!

I: Quando e porque é que começaste um blog?

R: Criei um blog em 2007 influenciada pelo meu namorado, mas era mais sobre coisas triviais e raramente actualizava. Em 2008 li um artigo sobre blogs de estilo pessoal na revista Ragazza (que já não é produzida em Portugal) e fiquei fã de alguns que lá mostraram. Após pouco tempo de ler diariamente esses blogs, e ter descoberto outros através deles, decidi mudar o rumo do meu blog antigo, apaguei a maioria dos posts anteriores e passou a ser o meu blog de estilo pessoal entre outras coisas, que já dura há mais de dois anos!

I: What inspires your outfits?
R: I love to see old pictures of my mum, aunts and grandmother, and I feel really inspired by them, especially because most of the vintage things I wear I got from my maternal gransmother's wardrobe. I'm also really inspired by some of the blogs I follow, personal style and street style both. For example, The Clothes Horse, Flashes of Style or Stockholm Streetstyle (even though it's unfair to say just 3 of the about 100 blogs I follow!). Lately I've also liked the style of Alexa Chung, mixing feminine and masculine.

I: Onde vais buscar a inspiração para os teus outfits?

R: Adoro ver fotografias antigas da minha mãe, tias e avó e sinto-me mesmo muito inspirada, até porque a maioria das coisas vintage que uso fui buscá-las aos armarios da casa da minha avó materna. Alguns dos blogs que sigo também me inspiram imenso, sejam de estilo pessoal sejam de street style. Por exemplo The Clothes Horse, Flashes of Style ou o Stockholm Street Style (apesar de ser um bocado ingrato dizer apenas 3 dos perto de 100 que sigo!). Ultimamente também tenho gostado imenso do estilo da Alexa Chung, a mistura entre o feminino e masculino.

I: Which are your favourite shops? Do you buy second hand?
R: My all time favourite shop is Zara, I remember shopping there ever since I was 7 or 8, at least. But H&M is a strong second. Yes, I have bought second hand, at flea markets (Feira da Ladra in Lisbon) and at Humana. Buying online's a good optioon aswell, but I never happened to buy second hand, even though I'm always on the lookout at ebay or etsy :)

I: Quais as tuas lojas favoritas? Costumas comprar em segunda mão?

R: A minha loja favorita desde sempre é a Zara, lembro-me de comprar roupa lá pelo menos desde os 7 ou 8 anos. Mas a H&M é uma forte segunda competição. Sim, já comprei algumas coisas em segunda mão, em feiras (feira da Ladra em Lisboa) e na loja Humana. Comprar online também é uma boa opção, mas por acaso o que comprei não foi em segunda mão, apesar de andar sempre de olho no e-bay e no etsy :)

I: Once you said that a couple of women stared at you because of the way you dress. Does that happen alot?
R: Yes, that happens a lot, I dont understand how people don't accept others that don't dress the same as them, but you must understand that :P It has bothered me more, most times I just ignore completely, but those women from that time really annoyed me, there weren't discrete at all, and all that because I was wearing a royal blue beret...

I: Uma vez disseste que umas senhoras ficaram a olhar para ti por causa da tua forma de vestir. R: Acontece frequentemente?

Sim, imensas vezes, não vivo num meio que perceba as pessoas que não se vestem igual a elas, mas tu deves perceber isso :P Mas já me afetou mais, a maioria das vezes ignoro completamente, mas essas senhoras da última vez que me aconteceu irritaram-me profundamente, não foram nada discretas, e tudo porque estava a usar uma boina azul royal...

I: What do you think of the (growing!) portuguese fashion blog community?
R: It's not as big as in other countries, but now there's alot more portuguese bloggers than there were 2 years ago when I started! And we're good! :P

I: O que achas da comunidade (em crescimento!) de fashion bloggers portugueses?

R: Não é tão grande como noutros países, mas agora há muito mais bloggers portuguesas do que quando comecei há 2 anos! E somos boas! :P

I: Now for a question I ask all the time: if you had a super power, which would it be, and why?
R: Teletransport, I really like the possibility of beeing somewhere else in the world in a matter of seconds!

I: Agora a pergunta que eu mais faço: se tivesses um super poder, qual seria, e porque?

R: Teletransporte, a possibilidade de estar noutro lugar do mundo em questão de segundos atrai-me imenso!

I: What band/singer and film would you recommend?
R: I haven't seen many films lately, but the last one that really got to me was Remember Me. But my all time favourite is The Sixth Sense. When it comes to music, I like several different genres, but two of my favourites are Muse and James Morrison.

I: Que música e que filme aconselharias?

R: Não tenho visto muitos filmes ultimamente, mas o último que me tocou imenso foi o Remember Me. Mas o meu preferido de sempre é o Sexto Sentido. Em relação a música, gosto de vários estilos musicais, duas das minhas preferencias são Muse e James Morrison.

I can't wait for next year, it'll be my turn to wear the cane and tophat! I don't think I mentioned it on my uni suit post, but they mean you're on your last year! They change colours according with the course you're in, so mine will be yellow (I'm quite excited about it! If you're wondering what my uni suit looks like, it's exactly the same, even though we're from different universities. And of course I still like to think I'm Batman or Vader while wearing it:

Since I havn't posted an outfit in AGES, here's a picture I took on the last day of lessons (but since I was too busy packing and coming back home, I totally forgot to post!)

And ever since I've been home I've been watching telly (which I don't at uni, because the Xbox steals all my attention), and there's a couple of ads my friends say remind them of me!

The first one (is actually on my christmas list) my friends say the song and the ad concept is "totally you"

and the second one, is actually really funny, cause LOADS of people tell me it reminds them of me (one of them actually said "now I know how you see the world!")

and they're right! The whole set and song is how I like to see the world and how I would dress up if it wasn't totally unappropriate. And, obviously, I love Florrie Arnold!

Not only she's one of the most adorable girls ever, this 21 year old English beauty also sings, even though I'm not a fan of her music, I love the song from the ad (which is so adorable, way better than the sad Blondie one) Here's the full song!

Ok, so I missed showing off my blogger friends to you guys! This time, I'm featuring a stylish girl from across the Atlantic. Hers is one of the blogs I check more often, not only because we share a love for pretty clothes and make up, but especially because it's a really fun read.

Let's get to know her a bit better!

When did you start blogging? and why?

I started blogging on October 11, 2009 because my best friend Jessica introduced me to Rebecca from The Clothes Horse's Flickr and I was so impressed by the way she "remixed" her closet. From there I began to daily check up on so many different blogs (including yours Ines :P) and I was so inspired. From that inspiration my wardrobe began to come together and I just felt like becoming part of the blogging world. It seemed like, and is, such an inspiring and friendly community.

Who is your style icon? Where do you go for an inspiration boost?

This is hard. There are so many people I look to for inspiration. I like to have a balance of different styles in my closet because I like to mix things up. I'd have to say I love Blair Waldorf's style. There's a whole folder on my desktop dedicated to her outfits. I love Effy from Skin's outfits (although I'd probably never leave my house the way she does) because she's so relaxed and grunged which balances out Blair's style. For an inspiration boost I go to lookbook.nu because there are millions of people from all over the world on there and it's just so easy to see tons of different outfits.

Now make us all a little bit jealous: how AWSOME is it to live in NYC?

Hahaha! This actually cracked me up. Well, I'm going to be honest: it is pretty awesome. I can't see myself living anywhere else. This is home to me. But please, don't think I live the lives of the characters on Gossip Girl. My life is definitely more toned down than that. I just really like taking adventures in the city (those living in the outer-boroughs refer to manhattan as "the city") and all over Brooklyn because there is always something going on and something new to find on each trip. It just stinks a bit to be a "minor" in the city because you can't really take advantage of everything the city offers.

What is your favourite band/singer? And your favourite film? (and btw, how awsome was the last harry potter? :D)

Favorite band...again, so many! I've really been into One Night Only lately, the problem is their new album isn't on the U.S. itunes store so I need to make a separate U.K. account to buy it OH! and since you mentioned Harry Potter if you didn't know, Tom Felton (who plays Draco) sings! His songs are so relaxing. My favorite film...I like most drama/romance films especially when they're from an era and have beautiful cinematography like Atonement. Now onto HARRY POTTER. First of all, I went to see the new movie by myself because none of my friends pre-ordered the tickets like I responsibly did, but nevertheless I enjoyed it. I was so happy they split it into two parts because I know they'll really stick close to the books this time. I saw this on opening night and the following day and it was just SO good. Rupert I think did a fantastic job playing Ron. He just cracks me up every time. I think though, my favorite book and movie will always be The Goblet of Fire. It's sad, I can recite every single line from that movie.

How silly of me, I totally forgot to ask Michelle what her team would be if she was in Hogwarts! I think I'd go with Slytherin, cause I used to have a massive crush on Tom Felton when the first Harry Potter came out.

Usually I'm really unlucky. But for some reason things have turned around! Uni has been going great, I have great friends and love hanging out with them, I'll see my boyfriend very soon....
